The Ultimate Next Gen Connectors Installer Revolution You Never Knew You Needed

/Connectors is your new, game-changing, paradigm-shifting, mind-blowing HQ for installing, updating, and managing Speckle connectors. Because clicking less = winning more. (And yes, I’m, entirely aboard the hype train - no brakes.)

With Next Gen, each connector graciously notifies you when it’s ready for an update - no more scavenger hunts for new versions. Plus, you can log in and manage accounts directly from the connector UI, making everything feel suspiciously… easy.

Manager isn’t obsolete - it’s still here for v2 patches and account management for those who hoard Speckle logins like rare NFTs. (are they still a thing? Is the '90s revival bringing Garbage Pail Kids back again? Cultural references are hard)

Minimal effort. Maximum Speckle. Unfathomable efficiency. :microphone::arrow_down:

To piggyback on this thread: we’re keen to hear any feedback you might have around IT being painful/blocking you from installing our connectors. We’ve covered as many bases as we could to make Speckle install and IT friendly, but you never know.

Otherwise, onwards and upwards. We have a secret project to move towards auto-updating-on-close, similar to how Rhino and many many many other vendors do.

The big pain for us is the Excel connector. Because for the original connectors its distributed via the Office Add-ins store, our IT has blocked access to that store unless we raise a request to allow specific apps through (and each user has to do that, we cant raise one request for the whole tool for everyone).

I see the Excel connector says coming soon, but if you can deliver it in another way (or in addition to) the Office 365 store, it would be much appreciated!

So in summary an install method from a less normal means of delivery than an official one?

Legitimate request, no doubt and almost 100% polar opposite from what we normally hear :joy:

Hi Jonathon
Do you by any chance know if the Next-Gen Connectors will come to Rhino for Mac any time soon? Is it on the roadmap?
Kind regards

Next gen macOS support is not in our roadmap for Q2-2025. It also depends the demand. Happy to hear your workflows in macOS environment :ear:

For those who are using SpecklePy for running automations: If Speckle Manager is going away, is the get_default_account() method in danger of extinction :skull:? It’s my go-to way to authenticate, so it’d be good to know if I need to switch.

The Connector-based auth will still populate that same local value - they share it with Manager.

That said, I will use an authorization token client instead of local accounts. But then I strip my machine down frequently, including removing and re-adding accounts with Manager. I also like to pin certain tokens to specific scopes.
