Vectorworks connector needed
a Python visual scripting is there available (Marionette)
Hi @gester! Thanks for voting for Vectorworks Usually, before we embark on a new connector development, we try to understand as well as we can what your expectations are from it.
What would you mainly use a Speckle VW connector for? Some thoughts:
- Would it be simple coordination and viewing models online?
- VectorWorks to VectorWorks data exchange/coordination amongst multiple users?
- Revit <> VectorWorks?
- DWGs/DXFs (Autocad, Civil3d) to VectorWorks?
Any thoughts on what workflows you’d want to prioritise would help massively!
hi @dimitrie
vectorworks is my tool of choice for architectural part of the projects.
-
in order to communicate with my branch designers i use mainly ifc with dwg as a control format
-
i am able to import revit geometries (both rvt and rfa), even to use them for my project, but i can’t import anything from archicad nor bentley which is not ifc.
if i am to rely on the ifc alone, then i wouldn’t need speckle, but afaik, revit ifc exports are not that good, and imports even worse. so i think the main goal is to better use of the autodesk platform, which i’m not acquainted with (i don’t even know how to use autocad).
hope it makes things easier. ah, btw, we have in vectorworks a full-fledged python visual programming named marionette (introduced some 6 yrs ago).
thanks for chiming in.
have fun,

Great to see this request.
In relation to this, I’d like to share that in the past couple of years I have been providing support to more and more Architectural practices working on both Vectorworks and other BIM or 3D platform.
The primary aspect is 2D to 3D coordination between the different software, which could be implemented thorugh a Speckle Connector!
And definitely, as pointed out by gester, overcoming communication and sharing issues via IFC would be a great.
Thank you all for the good work so far!
Good to see you Giovanni! My regards to Steven.
Me too
Vectorworks Connector please.
Hi,
I’m using rhino and Vectorworks and would be very interresting to get a connector between those 2 software. hope you will have time to look at this option.
with regards and thank for your work
There are rumors of a community-contributed Vectorworks connector being developed; watch this space!
WTH
I am so looking forward to it.
