I am an Architect trying to make use of speckle. I have found an issue when uploading IFC files (IFC4 in this case): The IfcSpace elements are missing. IfcSpace elements are basically the spaces of the model. I tried several times and IfcSpace elements (this is the IfcType of elements) are always missing.
I export IFC files from Archicad and the IfcSpace elements are usually visible with all their data in other IFC viewers I have tested such as SOLIBRI and BIMcollab.
In this example, there is an IFC file with this issue and circumstances above applied: the IfcSpace elements are missing but these are visible in other IFC viewers.
Thanks for bringing this up and for the sample files! We’re rewriting the IFC parser from scratch and will make sure to address this. Stay in the loop for future updates!
Hello Eugenio, I have looked at your model in the most recent Speckle viewer, and I was able to navigate to an IFC Space via the hierarchy tree. See the attached image,
.
Is this satisfactory, or are we missing something else? I opened the model in Solibri, but not being an expert, I wasn’t sure what I was looking for. If you could provide a bit more detail it would be helpful. Thanks.
Upon some more research I realized that the problem is probably that you want to see a geometric representation of the IFC space as others have requested here:
Once we integrate IFC space geometry, it should show in the filters. Which is desirable for several clients. Stay tuned, and thanks for your patience.
Yes you are correct with the last message about the display of the IFC space by default inside Speckle. As you mention also in some IFC viewers like SOLIBRI the representation of IFC Spaces needs to be set manually as it does not displayed by default.
It would be great to be able to display by default the IFC spaces so these can be used also for subsequent automations within Speckle.
