What it the best workflow to send a model in .idf format to power bi?
I’ve tried open the idf file in Sketchup using OpenStudio Application and then sending the file to Speckle through the Sketchup Connector.
I was able to send the model and open it in the browser, but when I try to receive the model in Power Bi i got an error.
I would like to use an idf file because I want to preserve the zone name information.
Is there any other workflow to do that?
To be honest, I’ve never used an .idf file and am not familiar with its data structure. Perhaps @jonathon, @bjoern or @gokermu might have more insight.
To assist you better, you could share a sample file with us or provide the Speckle URL so we can take a look.
Indeed, @habitzreuter, you say youve already published the file to Speckle, perhaps simply share the URL with us and we can take a look. If the data or metadata isn’t there, we will shift focus on where you can best get it to Speckle and then PowerBI - but the error screenshot alone is not a lot to work with.
Sorry, I have now change it to “link sharable”. The model was originally created in Rhino and then exported as an .idf file using ClimateStudio. I used this .idf file to run energy simulations in EnergyPlus.
My primary goal is to visualize the geometry in Power BI, including the zone names. This will allow me to later incorporate the simulation results from EnergyPlus into the Power BI dashboard.
Olá Leonardo! Vi uma sala de estar então estou assumindo PT/BR.
In, Rhino/Grasshopper you can use tools like Ladybug/Honeybee to load the idf model and unpack the data and geometry.
After that, you can use Speckle in Grasshopper to re package that information and prepare it for Power Bi.
I remember a tutorial from Bilal where he sanitized some data from Revit for Powerbi. The idea here would be the same, difference being your data source would be IDF instead of Revit.
Jonathon, that is exactly what I would like to visualize in Power Bi, geometry and space names.
But I keep getting the error that I previously showed when I tried to send the model using the Power Bi connector.
Is there anything else that I should do to be able to send the model to Power Bi?
Can you try again? I think because your Stream was set “Private” you saw this error. Now that is “Link Sharable” it should work. Otherwise we can investigate further.
Can you also tell us what is the PowerBI connector version?
Did you try seeing what the PowerBI dashboard I shared showed for you?
If that works, compare the queries/steps i included there. You haven’t shared much with us to try and guess what is going, so perhaps we can work backwards from confirming the shared workbook works for you or not and move forward to getting a solution for you.
