Speckle Server - not preview thumbnails

Hello,

The model previews are not showing up in the thumbnails.
Is this something on our end, or is it a limitation of the self-hosted server?

Thanks

Hi André,

This isn’t a limitation of self-hosted Speckle. Model thumbnails are generated asynchronously by the separate preview-service.

My first suspicion would be that the preview service is either not running, repeatedly restarting, or unable to communicate with Redis or the Speckle server.

A few things worth checking:

  • Confirm the preview-service container/pod is running.
  • Check its logs immediately after publishing a new version.
  • Confirm the server and preview service are using the same Redis instance. In the standard configuration these are PREVIEW_SERVICE_REDIS_URL on the server and REDIS_URL on the preview service.
  • If private object-server access is enabled, confirm PRIVATE_OBJECTS_SERVER_URL is reachable from within the deployment network.
  • Check that the preview service has sufficient memory and access to the graphics capabilities required for headless rendering.
  • Make sure the server and preview-service image versions are compatible.

For a Docker Compose deployment, the most useful starting point would be the output from:

docker compose ps
docker compose logs --tail=200 preview-service

Self-hosted deployments are community-supported here on the forum, so we can suggest likely areas to investigate, but we aren’t able to provide hands-on debugging for individual deployments.

Hello @jonathon,

Thank you for your quick reply, we’ll look into what you suggested.
