No Category available at DATA - RECORD when in Powerbi

Hi all,

I hope someone will help how to have the category in the record of data or family.

Eric

Hey @eric ,

Welcome to the community! Feel free to Introduce yourself :person_gesturing_ok: to the community if you want to! :grinning:

I suggest you check out our Power BI playlist:

You are not seeing the category field because what you selected is a Mesh object, not a Revit element.

Hi thank you for the quick reply

The 3D source was done in Navisworks Manage, I saw the lesson about adding column by [Data][category] so I can have the name unfortunately I cannot see or configure how can I name it. My idea in the model is to get the name of the Model such as the pile - footing - structure so that I can categorize them in power bi since I name then in speckle connector.

I still think we need a little help to help you.

Are you seeking to see the original filename against each of the piles? Earlier you asked for categories.

Data from Navisworks can be tricky as it is deeply nested (We’re working on this in Next Gen) but we can help you with what you have now if you give a little more detail - use screenshots if you prefer to highlight that way.

Hi thank you for the answer. I just that when I’m in powerbi I can click the name I used to name on the following, the MAIN model has split structure of pile, footing, and steel structure. so I name those in the speckle connector. Im working on power bi to classify them, for example putting button to identify them, so thinking that if I have that column in query I can easily do it.

Right.

To get the separate models in PowerBI you will be UNION joining separate queries. As such each individual model query can include a powerquery step to add the model name directly as a column value for that query prior to joining.

Data queries can be joined and analysed but In terms of visualising each model combined, multimodal previews aren’t yet supported in the 3d visual. It is something we can look at as we work on next generation of PowerBI connector and visual.

I added each column for the three items so I had already their name then I combined by append query so its okay. I had the the button and I can click it, but my problem is 'the 3D is not always coming up, its slow and always come up blank, first button ok it will pop up but shifting to other name of button isnt successfully coming.

Hey Eric,

Without a file sample to test what you are experiencing is really hard for us to help you.

Please share with us the file and we can have a look. You can share a direct message to me with you file.

What you describe usually happens when you have empty / null values in your data.

Thank you

Thanks. I did a direct message to you with the file.

Thanks! We are going to have a look and get back to you.

@eric what Navisworks connector version you use? You can see that in Speckle Manager.

I screenshot… advise please for me to continue using it…I want to know the solution

Hey @eric,

Thank you for sharing your model and the additional information.

After investigating, we discovered a bug that occurs when using the PowerBI connector with some data from Navisworks and IFC. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. A ticket has been created, and our team is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

hi thank you for the update. Can you please inform me when the above mentioned is already addressed? do you think it will take time?

As soon as we know we’ll let you know.

Thank you, looking forward to the solution so we can continue using it.
