Mac Support for Next Gen Connectors (demand ?)

Hi @jonathon
I’m a team of 1 (only a student)
I often use speckle when working on group projects in uni, however most people at my uni use mac.

I’m definiently willing to test and help with the development of the next gen connectors for mac. Payment also if it still would be afordable for students.

We are an office of 11, Mac/Archicad (v28) users. Speckle looks to be amazing, but, honestly, we can’t even start to look at it seriously until the Mac connector for Archicad is available. I’ve played with the legacy plug-in but it only seems to be for v27, and we can’t move backwards for Speckle. Hope something happens soon, happy to try Betas.

Well, I’m from Germany and something around 30% of architects are using Macs (Archicad and VectorWorks). These two applications do have a marketshare about 50% (the rest is Allplan and Revit/Autocad) which translates into 15% of Mac-users in total.

As far as I understand creating these plug-ins is a question of money. As the market is shifting more and more towards Revit I can understand the decision to not support macOS any longer. BUT: how many developers and therefor money do you need to support us Mac-Users?

I ask because Speckle is the only tool which could make it possible to work together with Revit in the same team! Working cross-platform without dataloss would be a dealbreaker and could force the big players to shift their subscription policy.

Bump from me as well…

main tools: Rhino / Grasshopper / PowerBI / Speckle. Would love to use it all in Mac (Apple Silicon)

Does PowerBI exist for Mac?

No, neither does Tekla. Our team uses both Macs and Windows. So we would have a Rhino / Grasshopper running on Mac streaming data to a client with Windows using Tekla and PowerBI

Hi there!
With the next gen update, all of my mac workflows are bricked :frowning: Kinda sucks, I used Speckle as the connecting tissue for the projects, including cooperation with Revit, Tekla and windows users.

Rhino + Grasshopper, SketchUp

I hope you get it up soon! Meanwhile I’ll check if Bonsai can handle my workflows, or I’ll just buy Window Parallels …

Yes!

Macbook Pro M1, Sequoia

I think there’s a real market for the next generation of architects who want to use Rhino (and similar CAD-platforms) with free softwares like Blender. In Norway about 80% of architecture students use Macbooks.

Is there any chance mac users get new speckle components before legacy components retire? Recently i tried installing legacy components for rhino and grasshopper (8.24) on mac (m2), and after installation (reboot and everything) components do not show in rhino and in grasshopper. To update speckle models i have to go to office or search for windows pc. Do you plan making new components for mac?

I’m bumping this as well. I’ve been away for awhile and noticed that I’m paying my subscription fee to use connectors that don’t work with Archicad 29. Consider this monthly payment a financial contribution to the cause, but I sincerely hope that we’ll have new connectors before the old ones are deprecated. In the case of Archicad 29, they already are.

Looks like “SOON” is a quite wide term …

I would also appreciate recommendations for Speckle on macOS, especially for Rhino and Blender!

Archicad and Rhino user on Mac. Would be awesome to have speckle on macs. Macs have come a long way when it comes to hardware performance in the post intel era, which has forced many users like myself to switch to mac. Surely windows is always gonna be more in numbers but lot of serious CAD work is being done on mac these days.

Can you tell us more about your company @Neecooe and @Fy_Wi and your plans for Speckle if Mac support were added?
