Keeping Speckle Secure & Connected – Email Verification Now Required!

2024 was a year of going deep into security matters. We announced SOC 2 Part 1 last November and SOC 2 Part 2 this month. In the same spirit, we continue to take your data security incredibly seriously.

Much of Speckle was secure by design—now, we’ve been building the application around that to enhance this core capability.

At Speckle, we’re all about sharing secure, open, and collaborative data. Email verification is now a must-have to keep things safe and seamless; to maintain security and integrity across the platform, accounts that have not completed email verification will no longer be able to send or receive data as of Friday, February 14th :blue_heart:.

Why This is a Win for You @Community :

  • Stronger Security – Verified emails provide protection against unauthorized access and potential threats.
  • Seamless Access – Ensure your account remains secure and your login experience remains uninterrupted.
  • Prevents Email Squatting – Verification ensures that only legitimate users retain control over their accounts, stopping unauthorized individuals from taking over inactive emails.

Why This is Great for Teams & Workspaces:

  • Domain-Protected Workspaces – Once verified, you can mark a workspace as restricted to your organization’s domain, ensuring only trusted members gain access.
  • Discoverable Workspaces – Verified users can also make their workspaces discoverable, improving collaboration and connectivity within the platform.

While we believe this change benefits everyone, we understand that some users may face issues if they can no longer access the email they originally signed up with. Please contact our support team (me) if this affects you.

Important Notice:

  • Unverified Accounts Cannot Send or Receive Data – To maintain security and integrity across the platform, accounts that have not completed email verification will no longer be able to send or receive data.

Flexibility for Individuals

Your account supports multiple verified email addresses, which you can manage in user settings. This allows you to manage different roles efficiently, such as company work, joint ventures, or educational projects. Projects you collaborate on will also be tied to your relevant email address, ensuring seamless access management across different workspaces.

Enhanced Security for Organizations

If you signed up via SSO, your email verification is automatic, ensuring a hassle-free experience while maintaining the highest security standards. SSO (Single Sign-On) offers organizations centralized control over workspace access, providing an additional layer of security beyond email verification. With SSO, organizations can manage permissions centrally, ensuring only the right people have access.

We remain committed to keeping Speckle the best place for secure, seamless collaboration—building on a strong security foundation to give you even more control and protection.

Verify your email now to continue accessing your account and unlock these powerful new workspace features!

Our architectural firm wishes to create dashboards with PowerBI to link to our Rhino and Revit models, but our understanding is that the PowerBI connector will only work when the projects are hosted on discoverable workspaces. Much of the information we wish to evaluate pertains to projects with which we have signed NDA’s. Does Speckle have plans to make this connector functional with projects hosted on our domain-protected workspaces?
