Enquiry about subscription options and several feature-related concerns.

Hello Speckle Team,

Recently, a colleague came across Speckle and shared it to me and i tried. After some initial testing, I found that Speckle isa highly promising platform for the AEC industry. I am currently preparing a report on Speckle’s features and capabilities, with the intention of recommending it to my company and our partners.

After reviewing and using some of the functions on your hosted service through my colleague’s account, our development team attempted a self-hosted deployment yesterday. We then realised that the distinctions between the open-source features and the paid plan features are not clearly documented.

Before deployment, I went through many of your published materials and Q&As, and I had identified some of the differences — for example, Workspaces and Speckle Automate. Initially, I believed I understood the boundaries between the two. However, once we deployed the self-hosted service, we found that features such as Saved Views were missing, as well as support for the file formats listed in your updated documentation, including:IFC, 3DM, 3MF, 3DS, AMF, DWG, DXF, X, E57, IGS, IGES, DGN, FBX, OBJ, PLY, SLDPRT, STP, STEP, STL.

I later discovered through forum discussions that Saved Views relies on Workspaces, but there is no clear explanation on whether multi-format upload is supported in self-hosted deployments.

I have not yet tested all features, but I remain uncertain about the differences between the additional capabilities provided in your hosted paid plans and those available in self-hosted deployments. I would like to know whether there are more features that are not included in the self-hosted version.

The following questions are important for our company’s business:

Will the front-end support i18n?
Our clients are located in various countries. While English is widely used, some regions rely primarily on other languages. If i18n is supported, we would be able to maintain the translations ourselves.

Regarding the functionality differences mentioned above:
If our company requires the additional features available in the paid plans, would it be possible to obtain the capability for internal, self-hosted deployment after subscribing?

Best wishes,
Jo.M

Hi Jayden,

Thanks for your and your team’s interest in Speckle, we appreciate you giving us a try! You’re correct that our open-source version delivers access to our core data access and connector capabilities, while Speckle Automate and Intelligence are additional value available as part of our enterprise offering.

We offer all of our enterprise features both in Speckle-hosted and customer-hosted deployment models. If you’d like to review our enterprise engagement options, please feel free to shoot me an email at virginia@speckle.systems and I’m happy to find some time to chat and share more.

In addition to what @Virginia_Senf explained, there are aspects usable on our deployed server at https://app.speckle.systems that rely on non-opensource components - in particular, the multiple drag-n-drop file formats support you refer to. These are directly licensed to Speckle as proprietary code and can’t be redistributed. Support for IFC, OBJ, and STL is part of the open source core.

The open source core is fully functional and not restricted from use, modification, or even offering competitive services.
