Blender Add-On Can't be Enabled (Throws Error)

In trying to upgrade to next gen connectors. I uninstalled my Speckle Manager and all connectors, then installed the latest blender and the latest blender connector (speckle.blender.installer-3.2.0-beta2.exe).

It seems to be installed, but can’t be enabled. When I click on the checkbox - I get this error:

“attempted relative import beyond top-level package”

Blender version is 4.4.3

Also one thing to note that’s confusing is that your instructions say to look in “Extensions” for Speckle, but it’s in Add-ons

I am also recieving the same error!

Hi,

Just published a new version, 3.2.0-beta3. This error should be fixed now.

Let me know if you have further problems.

Speckle Blender 3.2.0 B3 works great - on Mac …

I still can’t activate Speckle (Beta 3 now) on Windows in Blender 4.4.3
(Although Bonsai wasn’t activated at that time)
I just says :

Failed to install dependencies through uv, got 2 return code

?
Funny, for me,
Speckle V3, meant for Windows, only works on Mac,
while Bonsai works on Windows only …
What a mess.

Maybe I should try to “install”, or better copy, bpy_speckle folder on Linux too and test Speckle and Bonsai there (?)

Looks like Speckle Blender B3 also works great on Linux …
Just that I have the same login to Speckle (local host) problem as on Mac. But the Speckle Tab is working and available in Blender’s “N-Panel”.

And as it was already hard to find Blender’s Settings Folders in Linux file system mess - I will not also search for Speckles login credential paths … on Linux .. for now.
But at least Speckle for Blender seems to work on Linux as well as on macOS.

Hi @zoomer,

Could you send me the full error message you’re getting on windows? It should be in Window > Toggle System Console.

Cool, I learned something new …
It has more info in there indeed.

hey @zoomer,

although I cannot reproduce your issue, I had a guess made a small change. You can try v3.2.0-beta4 and let us know if it solves your issue.

Wow, that works.
Thank you very much @dogukan !

Can you please elaborate a bit on what the problem was ?

As I currently have lots of issues - nobody else has !
Since a few weeks already. And I can’t narrow it down … when I think I found a problem or a solution and further test … it may work later nevertheless or unexpectedly not …

OMG … problems start again …

OK, I installed Speckle Beta 4 on Windows.
I was careful, so I deactivated Bonsai 0.8.3 before - then I tried to activate Speckle B4 - which took unexpectedly long but worked for the first time on Windows for me …
And I even saw the Speckle Tab in N-Panel for the first time.
And I could even load a project.

So I had the Blender window open with my loaded Speckle project and went back to Mac to install Speckle V3 B4 by the copied bpy-speckle folder from Windows.
Suddenly Blender on Windows crashed …
When re-opening I missed the Speckle Tab. In AddOns I saw that Bonsai was activated again, Speckle was off. Interestingly I can activate Speckle B4 nevertheless and it still works !
But now Bonsai is no more able to load an IFC !
(Same situation as on Mac)

OK, while testing lately on Mac, there was one moment when I could run both AddOns successfully beside each other, Speckle and Bonsai - by Blender Settings from scratch (!). So I thought Bonsai and Blender not compatible wasn’t the real problem.
But that finally also experienced as a temporary solution, for one or a few Blender Session only.

So for now I have again to think there really IS an issue between Bonsai Extension and Speckle AddOn. (Or arised since about 3+ weeks)

Have you ever used Speckle together with / when Bonsai Extension (*) installed ? Did it work for you ?

(*)
I use daily builds of Bonsai 0.8.3 Extension, which you will get when you add their github Extension path as a remote Repository in Extensions : https://raw.githubusercontent.com/IfcOpenShell/bonsai_unstable_repo/main/index.json

Man, next time you get to a stable combo we need you to sit on it!!!

As we are stil in feature parity building path for the Speckle side we aren’t considering other sandbox partners.

You mean I should not install macOS 26 Public Beta in July and such things

Fair enough.
It is just … I thought people from AEC, especially when having an eye on Blender, and Speckle, likely will also use Bonsai. I mean Dion was on the Speckle Forum too.
But I am no more that sure, maybe I am the only one (?) … so it would already help to know if I am really the only one. Or to know that there are plenty of users using both AddOns - without issues …
