Window Nested in Wall in Speckle 2.0 but not in Speckle 3.0

Why is it that windows are children of walls in Speckle 2.0 but not in Next-Gen connectors?

Hello @Santiago_Krossler,

Welcome to the Speckle community!

Good observation. This is due to the feedback we received from our community. Having Windows/Doors or any hosted element as children of that object caused issues such as:

  • hiding or isolating specific elements (hiding a wall would also hide its children).
  • Receiving in other host applications, where the layer structure would become more complex.

Additionally, this reflects how they are represented in the host application. For instance, in Revit, windows are not actually children of walls but rather have a relationship with the wall.

@clrkng, please feel free to add any points I may have missed.
