Currently, the viewer makes only elements transparent when you isolate them out (but inverse … and so that you also don’t have the elements selectable anymore
in AEC we always want to have story-wise overview (which we can achieve with a section box or a better tree navigation) … but sometimes you just want to take a peek.
In BIMcollab Zoom you can make elements transparent but selectable with “control+t” … would be good to have this option too in Speckle.
To continue here with a practical case to raise the importance for this feature:
We have a contractor in our project in Hamburg who wants to check the 3D rebar and the steel mounting parts to understand the procedure of construction better … for that, we provided our speckle concrete model, the steel parts, and the rebar segments. The guys from the contractor are invited to our Speckle server.
Combining rebar and the steel mounting parts in the rebar is easy
It gets less convenient if you want to see the concrete parts addionally:
you can make a section box to clip away the concrete surface of slabs/walls/beams
you can hide objects or the whole model - but sometimes you still want to see how geometry continues and not wanted to have it vanished
it would be great to have the feature of making the whole model transparent or only parts of it.
This is not just relevant for execution but all of the coordination aspects of a project.
Besides this wish of ours, I’m quite happy with the speed of the viewer. You came a long way with it.
