Last week we published a high level comparison between Speckle and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC). If you haven’t seen it, it’s here:
And I was recently triggered by a comment on the two:
…I got the impression people are trying to work out how ACC and Speckle compare and how can be used together, knowing that 99% of companies will need to be in ACC…
Do you agree that most companies will need to rely on ACC, or do you think Speckle can be the alternative? What are the most important features in ACC that you would like to see in Speckle?
I might trigger you a bit here, but… It’s true that we’re far from being able to break away from ACC. When all disciplines are working in Revit, there’s really no reason not to use it. A file-based workflow combined with document version control is very efficient. If a project is 100% based on Autodesk products, then for me, ACC is the way to go.
When I first discovered Speckle, I saw it more as a replacement for IFC than as a collaborative platform that could compete with ACC. The big problem with ACC is that it has become too heavy and complex. Many people aren’t interested in all its features; they just want to see an up-to-date 3D model with the data and be able to comment. Speckle offers exactly that, and this is where I believe it can replace ACC. We can reduce our dependence on ACC by transitioning collaborators to Speckle, saving not only on licensing costs but also on training. Speckle is extremely user-friendly.
Oh, and by the way, I’ve read the post and it was really interesting. Thanks!
