ArchiCAD Speckle 3.0 connector Crash

Hi,
I just installed next gen 3.0 Archicad Connector and immediately Archicad 27 crashes on opening

I uninstalled the previous version, re installed the new Next Gen 3.0 and kept crashing.

Speckle Status::white_check_mark:
Objective: Update Next Gen 3.0 ArchiCAD connector to work with PowerBi later.
Issue: After update Archicad ends up with a crash and the Bug Report Window as shown.
Example: The described process above.
Speckle link: L.128 | Speckle
Logs: Not able to log, the only way to open ArchiCAD 27 is to uninstall ArchiCAD 3.0 Speckle connector

Hi @Ignacio_Diaz

Did you try to open Archicad with an existing project, or a blank project?
If it was an existing one did you already publish models to Speckle from it with a previous connector version? If yes, which version?

Have you tried any of the previous 3.0.0-beta.x versions? Is 3.0.0 the first where you experienced this problem?

Could you also share the Archicad build number and language? (like 3001 - INT) It’s under Help/About Archicad

Thank you!
David

Thanks David,

I´ve been working with this project last week (until last friday) with 2.x version of Speckle Manager and last week latest version for connectors both ArchiCad and PowerBi.
Today I uninstalled the previous version of ArchiCAD Connector and re installed the New GEN 3.0 and when I opened ArchiCAD again it started to crash, wasn’t even able to open the file so I uninstalled it and ArchiCAD worked again but I’m unable to connect with speckle anymore for this reason.
My Archicad is 4030 SPA Full.

I really appreciate your help! Thanks David.

Thanks for the reply @Ignacio_Diaz

I assume you were using the latest of the 2.x connector so far, based on the Speckle model you shared.

Have you tried opening just a new empty project in Archicad using the 3.0.0 Speckle connector? Did that also result in a crash? If you haven’t, could you try that please?

David,

Thanks again for your support. Before trying what you ask me with a new file I uninstalled everything again an re installed again. Once I opened a new file it finally opened just fine. After that I tried my old file and it’s working fine, I assume it was a corrupted installation before. Thanks again and I hope this post may be helpful to someone who is running the same problem. Regards!

Thanks for your reply. Happy to hear, that it’s sorted!

Hoi @David_Kekesi, does the Connector run in ArchiCAD 28 as well (as specified on your website). Im receiving the following error when trying to load the speckle plugin in ArchiCAD. Thanks. matthias

Hey @mhelmrei

Yes, it does.
How did you load the connector? Did you use the latest installer for the Archicad connector?

The AddOn name should be different:

Please make sure to remove any previous installation! Check your Add-Ons folder under “Program Files/Graphisoft/{Archicad version}/Add-Ons” as well. If you have a previous version of the v3 beta there (Speckle.apx) just delete it.

Thanks for the quick reply! I found the correct plugin – it was installed in a strange location.

I copied the plugin to the Add-On folder and now I can load it. It’s also correctly named “Speckle ArchiCAD Connector”.

Thanks again!

Best,
m

If you use the installer, then it should also register the AddOn for you (it will show up in the AddOn manager the next time you start Archicad), so no need to copy it into the Add-Ons folder and load it manually.

Hi @David_Kekesi,
Thanks again!

I was also wondering—is there a way to get more descriptive error messages? Maybe there’s a developer or debug version of the plugin available?

We’re currently integrating the new data objects from specklepy v3.0.1.

Thanks!
Matthias

Hey @mhelmrei

I assume you had this message while trying to Load a model in Archicad.

This one should be resolved now, if you have the latest desktop service (currently v0.15.0) installed on your machine. You can check by right-clicking the tray icon and clicking About. You can also update here if you have an older version:

But yes, I agree that this error message is not really useful from the users POV. We’ll review these, thanks for the feedback!
