ArcGIS Connector - Installation Issues

Hi there,

I am trying to install the ArcGIS connector but running into issues. I have seen this previous post, and tried the suggestion in it, but they didn’t help. I also did a run through with the original poster as we both work at the same firm, but it seems to be a different issue.

What I have done is:

  1. Downloaded latest installer from here - need to use individual installer rather than Speckle manager.
  2. Run the installer - got the following messages (seems some issues in installing some libraries)
Error messages

  1. Speckle toolbox is visible in ArcGIS Pro (see attached screen shot)

, and some funcitonality works (it can get stream names linked to my account) - but as soon as I try to add a Stream to recieve is errors. Error message is:

Any help would be much appreciated - keen to get it installed and tested.

Hi @thomas_bush !

To jump to the solution:

  1. Does the directory from the error message actually exist on your disk? (if you ignore ‘\speckle_streams.txt’)

  2. In ArcGIS, go to View-Windows-Python window and type this:
    from arcpy._mp import ArcGISProject; print(ArcGISProject('CURRENT').filePath.replace("aprx","gdb"))
    What is the output?

P.S. usually if any other issue occurs it can be solved with “Refresh” checkbox on the bottom of Speckle plugin. But not the current one :upside_down_face:

Regarding the installer:
The manual install and instructions are available here: speckle-arcgis/speckle_arcgis_installer at main · specklesystems/speckle-arcgis · GitHub

The solution from the previous post you mentioned was already incorporated in the Manager installer, so must be something different. Could you please describe what is the issue itself: manager gives an error, or plugin just doesn’t show up?

Please provide the version you are installing; the Log from Speckle Manager (Speckle Manager->Settings->Show Log ON, then try to install Arcgis and copy the log message for me). Also please check if there is a folder “arcgispro-py3-speckle” in AppData\Local\ESRI\conda\envs.

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay. I have been trying multiple times, with support of some people who were able to get it to work.

I have tried now with the latest installer (2.11.3) and a clean install of ArcGIS Pro (v3.0.3). We cannot use the SpeckleManager within our firm, so I have used the individual installer.

I now get this error instead:

Hi Thomas!
Manual installer for 2.11.3 now can be found here: Release 2.11.3-fix: Adding a 2.11.3 whl file for manual install · specklesystems/speckle-arcgis · GitHub and the instructions are described here: speckle-arcgis/speckle_arcgis_installer at main · specklesystems/speckle-arcgis · GitHub

Unfortunately, without Manager you are not able to access your Speckle accounts from ArcGIS connector, but @teocomi might have a workaround to solve this

We have the Speckle@Arup account manager that provides access to Speckle accounts

Thomas downloaded the 2.11.3 ArcGIS installer here: https://releases.speckle.systems/ , which is the same as I did and it worked for me. Could the 2.11.3-fix ArcGIS installer work for Thomas or is the manual process required?

Hey @thomas_bush, @JdB! To see if this is an isolated problem regarding ArcGIS only, do any other connectors work for @thomas_bush? This will tell us if it’s a botched local accounts issue, or something related to the ArcGIS connector alone.

Can you check if an Accounts.db exists on your computer @thomas_bush? It should be found in %appdata%/Speckle (just paste that in an explorer address bar)?

image

If this is not the case, make sure to use the Speckle Arup Manager (or ours) and add a speckle account!

P.S. Downloading from Release page should work, no manual install is needed in this case

Hey @Kateryna ,

Yes - other connectors are working fine (e.g. Grasshopper).

I have the Accounts.db, and accounts in the Speckle@Arup Account Manager.

I have tried again this morning by removing the speckle-py env and using the latest installer (“arcgis-2.11.3-fix.exe”) - still having the same issue.

UPD: Version 2.13 has a complete restructuring, if you encounter anything similar, hotfix should be easy and quick :ok_hand:
