A speckle friendly alternative to APS Model Derivative Service

We have a new cloud service and I wanted to gauge interest in this community. You can find it at https://www.kindautomatic.com. Our API and UI provide a user-friendly way to access data in your Autodesk Revit files, saving you time and reducing costs. Plus soon we will support a direct connection to Speckle Server.

The app currently provides:

  1. A simpler and more capable alternative to model derivative service focused on Revit (note we don’t support work-session files currently, but can add if requested)
  2. Support for input file types not offered by Model Derivative (currently .rvt and .rfa, .ifc coming soon)
  3. High-quality IFC export but also support for more export file types not provided by Model Derivative (.glTF, .usd coming soon)
  4. Our service provides easy, out-of-the-box support for exporting views and sheets as PDF and DWFx files.
  5. It has a simple UI to extract and view data, but you can also download it.
  6. Easy-to-use API for developers.
  7. Support for older files. We have processed files going back to Revit 2015. If you have older please try them!
  8. Bring your own Autodesk ClientID and Secret. We don’t charge you for the above. Free tier users run Revit-related jobs through their APS Accounts and only have their APS fees.
  9. Enterprise scale extraction - Get in touch.
  • Not part of beta but we are internally testing a more scalable method for extracting data from Revit files. In our internal tests, we have extracted views, metadata, and geometry (as .ifc and .glTF) from 100 copies of the Snowdon Towers Architecture file in ~10 minutes. Interested in learning more? Get in touch!

We are currently in Beta with the above features, and you can use it for free. Final pricing, features and Autodesk ClientID/Secret requirements may change.

We are also actively developing the following items. These are currently in alpha stage, but we would be delighted to share information with anyone who expresses an interest:

  1. Direct AWS IOT Twinmaker Integration
  • Automatically Push your .rvt, .ifc files to AWS’s cloud native digital twin platform. Our service handles the complexity of filtering your building components and connecting different services to your BIM model.
  1. Analysis Queries and Search across files
  2. Let us know if this is something you would need.
  3. Importing data into Revit
  4. Model Derivative only supports extraction, we will support Extraction and Creation

To start saving time and money on your Autodesk Revit projects, sign up for our free beta program. We’d love for you to try it out and provide feedback! Please DM or email with any issues. Thank you!

Here we processed 100 copies of a Revit sample file without desktop Revit in about 3 minutes and pushed them all to Speckle. (We currently use the ifc loader to ingest into speckle, but are close to being done with a true speckle Serializer and Transport layer., once we are done we will demo larger files as well)

Sorry I realized there was an error with the link I posted… LOL https://www.kindautomatic.com/

Really cool, thanks for sharing @Joshua_Katz !

Curious to know what other community members think of this flow and if they’d be interested in haivng an official integration in place. :eyes:

Are all elements and information in the Revit model being extracted or are you aware of any limitations?

Thank you @teocomi. So far so good. View/sheet extraction is an area we are making some improvements to. And we don’t support workshared/linked files yet.
