What the heck happened to the PowerBI visual? Pre monetization I never had any problems. The current versions have been nothing but problems. I’ve spent more time troubleshooting tokens, deleting caches, uninstalling, reinstalling than I have actually using the visuals.
The latest fresh install of 3.4.1 is now just stuck at “We reached the end of the buffer”.
Its unfortunate because I recognize the usefulness of such a tool in the AEC industry but I can’t push for buy in at my company for a toolset that has proven to be so unreliable.
I really appreciate the support and Speckle’s community, and my main use of Speckle is integration with PBI to implement data management in the construction phase.
However, we do need reliability and speed to get information, otherwise, people do not buy-in. We already have a convincement work to do, developing these stuff usually aside to our daily responsibilities, until we be able to demonstrate value and get sponsorship from our leaders…
I’m confident Speckle support will work in deliver a state-of-art solution, though! Let’s see!
However… we can’t wait too much… time is ticking, walls are being built, and they will not wait…
I do hope the issue is actually with my system and/or approach with the tools, not with the tool itself.
I understand the frustration - we sometimes have the same developing a Power BI connector. We’re working intensively on that to eliminate all these issues you are having.
But unfortunately, the error messages are not telling a lot. For example “We reached the end of the buffer.” is pointing a bad data - so it could be anything.
It’d be great if you can share your model with us and we chase the problem. We can also jump in a quick call if you’re keen. @Ding_Gus_Con
Appreciate the feedback and willingness to look into this, just venting my frustration as an end user.
I can typically get around all these issues but its a sledgehammer approach to uninstall, wipe, rinse and repeat, and thats not the type of instructions I want to give my peers.
In this case the solution ended up being manually deleting the PowerBI data source credentials via PBI and reinstalling connector and rebuilding dashboard from scratch.
As an end user for me there’s a lot of hoops to jump through to create and maintain a dashboard. The addin itself remains unstable in Revit 2024 and will crash consistently due to repeated concurrent calls from ExternalEvenHandlerCreator and AsyncDelegateExternalEventHandler when the user is interacting with tags, panning/zooming/viewing etc. These overlapping events cause revit to hard crash with no warning. This means I have to manually disable the addin and reinstall to publish. There absolutely should be a toggle to disable the listeners or the addin in general. I’ve lost track of how many hours of work I’ve lost because I forgot to disable the addin before modifying things.
Also because there are certain important data containers like “Type Mark” that are not visible I have to introduce additional workflows to build relationship in dashboard to include them.
All that aside its still manageable considering the usefulness of what we are able to produce, but add in the token access/cash issues/credentials, start becoming problems users just deflect back to more stable processes like simple excel data.
