My Name is Moustafa El-Sawy (him/he). I am originally from Egypt but was born in Canada. I am currently working as a structural engineer at AECOM NY. I first heard about Speckle during the 2021 AECTech Symposium (https://www.aectech.us/).
I really enjoy coding and providing automation tools to help my colleagues and make all our life easier. I have created several inhouse tools for structural packages and interopability tools.
Hoping to play around with the ETABS connector, possible provide feedback and hopefully contribute whenever I have time!
It’s really amazing to get to know you a bit beyond your usernames and profile pictures, hope you will enjoy browsing through the forum and learning more about our little blue brick .
More importantly, we’re looking forward to hearing what you have to say on the various topics and how you’d like us to shape Speckle going forward
Hi Speckle Community! My name is Nikita, i’m an architect from Ukraine .Currently i’m working with Revit, rhino+grasshopper in BIM automation processes field and i’m inspired with the possibilities that could be achieved using Speckle
P.S. First heard about Speckle in march 2020
Let’s take the opportunity to introduce myself… I am Bruno, I am from Belgium and moved to Denmark! I am studying architectural engineering at the Technical University of Denmark . I would like to work on how to improve workflows for building design and how to be more efficient in building design. I also just entered the world of Open Source and enjoy it so far. I am not a software developer but I am trying to get the knowledge for creating coding myself. So far I am using the other creation.
I am also very interested in parametric design and sustainability. It’s a big world in movements so I am a bit lost sometimes. Nevertheless, it’s a great opportunity to find new exciting things!
I am Andrea (male name here in Italy ), I studied Building Engineering and Architecture, but I’ve been working at a civil engineering firm for 6 years as a software developer (I studied computer science before the university).
I (and 2 other colleagues) develop tools to optimize and automate company workflows, trying to convince out geotechnical engineers that life can be easier with a little programming skills
The focus for the next years will be to push further the integration between all our tools/software, and we’re taking Speckle under serious consideration to do that!
One of our goals is to bring DevOps-like practices to the infrastructure engineering (BIMOps?)
I first heard about Speckle in 2018, but quickly dropped in favor of our custom DB/workflows, that turned out to be a bit cumbersome (at the end of the day, an engineer is not happy if he doesn’t have a spreadsheet to control so excel was our main “UI”).
I’m most proficient in python, but I’m strengthening my C# knowledge and worked with some javascript (NodeJS and React), mainly to use forge APIs.
I’m mostly a computer geek and I love open source, so in my free time, if I’m not paragliding, spelunking or just enjoying life, I try to help OS projects as I can!
Let’s see if I convince my boss to dedicate some time to help this great project for a win-win scenario
Hey @Mykyta_Onopko, @bruadam and @sanzoghenzo - thanks for the intros!!! Apologies we’re replying late, we’re hacking stuff for you For us it’s amazing to see the people behind speckle
If you show up, we’ve got our community standup later today and we can discuss the points you raised in more depth!
I’m highlighting these qoutes:
Because this is totally up our long term alley, and anything we can do to help you get there, we’d more than happy to act on. It’s where we ultimately see the biggest value in Speckle (perhaps because we’re geeks) - part of getting there is also making speckle as “consumer” friendly as possible, so there’s data to automate on
My name’s Fabiāns and I’m the latest addition to the Speckle team I hail from Riga, Latvia and I’ve joined this wonderful team here to help with web development and improve the web experience for Speckle users
I’ve been into software engineering since I was ~12 years old (so for most of my life) and web development has been the area that I’ve focused on the most. I’ve got a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from University of Latvia and professionally I’ve worked in a few e-commerce oriented companies. While I’ve worked with various programming languages (C#, C++, PHP, Dart), JavaScript and TypeScript are the ones I enjoy the most and have the most experience with and I really like the JavaScript ecosystem even with all its flaws I like working across the stack - the backend, the frontend and everything in between, so I think I have a pretty holistic view of the entire web development process.
Outside of programming you can find me gaming, watching horror movies or producing and listening to electronic music (mostly UK inspired techno)
Hi everyone, I’m Luis, I’m Peruvian now living in Vancouver, . Before that, I was living a couple of years in Chile and I was a witness to the introduction of BIM technologies and methodologies in countries like Chile and Peru. I studied Civil Engineer at university and since the beginning, I knew that implementing technology in the AEC industry should be the future so I fully immerse myself in this world. One thing took to another and I finished like a self-taught programmer . I started with Dynamo, passing for Python scripts or C# Macros inside Revit, to finally develop Revit Add-ins and trying to develop some web viewers to send quick 3D information from the model to the site of construction. On this road I found speckle in January 2022 and thought could be a good option when you need to develop a web app for AEC without using APIs from Autodesk. I’d like to learn to use speckle APIs and become a Developer specialist in solutions for AEC. When I’m not working or coding, in my free time I like to play soccer , do a lot of hikes with friends and meet new people from cultures different from mine.
Hello here, it’s Jim from Taiwan. I currently work in Tokyo, Japan as an AEC software engineer. Always keep an eye on the whole BIM industry. I am also a self -taught developer and always keep learning things that new to me. Several things I keep doing for stay motivated. Tons of notes, a lot of reading and practice. I am excited about Speckle. Hope I can contribute the community one day soon. I have general interests in computer geometry, algorithm and games. I even hold a discord channel for binding AEC folks in Taiwan.
Some website about me, my reading: (Many of them are in C#)
Also, I recommend Tokyo AEC group as well. They are excellent developers base in Tokyo. I happen to had some chance to host two sessions, feel free to check.
I’ll jump in to introduce myself. I’m Dogukan, based in Münich . My background is similiar with other community members I have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering. Since the beginning of my education I’m into computational design and programming.
Currently I’m working for Dlubal Software in Germany and developing API products. Before that I worked several design firms in BIM workflow. For a while I’m watching Speckle with distance, playing with it a bit. And I have to say it’s very impressive. Therefore I wanted to jump in to see if I can make any contributions.
I’m hoping to contribute this community more about integration of structural analysis softwares, FEM calculations etc.
Hi everybody.
After a few posts I thought I introduce myself. My name is Max Tillberg and I work at Equa solutions, a company that sells building simulations tools, most importantly IDA ICE. My main focus is to find a workflow between BIM-models and energy simulations that actually works and I think Speckle can solve many of the problems our users are facing.
my name is Alexander and I’m a structural engineer working for Bollinger+Grohmann in Frankfurt and before that in Munich. I have followed the Speckle magic for a while now and we were also happy to have met @dimitrie and @teocomi last year, who thankfully took some time for us to discuss things. Now we are keen to give it a spin IRL … maybe actively contributing to it over time as well … but let’s see … baby steps.
As we are (almost ) faithful Dlubal Users and sometimes Dlubal tool developers, we are interested in what @dogukan is up to , maybe there is the possibility for some exchange in the future.
I’m Carlos and I’m a Civil Engineer and Software Developer from Barcelona. I’ve been following what you guys are doing for some time, and it looks awesome. Definitely, the AEC industry needed some tools like Speckle. Enabling parametric workflows from one software to another, with the plus of having version control, just can’t be wrong.
I’m here because of the incoming Hackathon. Looking forward to it! If someone has any crazy structural idea, just let me join their team!
As for myself, well, I started my professional experience using a lot of Excel to design bridges, which then turned into VBA enhanced excels, which then turned into Python (a ton of Python haha), which then turned into JavaScript and the IFC.js course, which then turned into Vue.js… I guess it never ends! The Blender API, BlenderBIM, Sverchok API and SAP2000 API are somewhere in the middle, too. BTW, I take the opportunity to highlight that BlenderBIM and IFC.js are doing some massive stuff over there. Definitely, what’s coming next in AEC looks very promising.
Another field that has got me trapped for the last 5 years is Machine Learning, specially the Reinforcement Learning part. I strongly believe it will play an important role in AEC during the following years. And if all that crazy stuff wasn’t enough by itself, I guess I will finally need to get my hands around C# for the Hackathon
If you don’t find me hacking into anything, most likely I will be riding my mountain bike down some trails, or enjoying specialty coffee in my V60, or building a mechanical keyboard such as my Corne:
I’m Marlon a Architect who is more into the technology part and work as a BIM Coordinator. I’m from Brazil but actually based in Portugal.
I have a strong feeling that programming will rule the world in a few years and that’s why i’m learning how to code and automate stuffs. For now i’m learning Python but already looking for some AR stuff too, like Unity.
Despite that, in my free time, i like motorcycle racing, running and playing video games on PC (not a console guy. Hahahahaha!).
My name is Christopher Diggins. I’m a computer science nerd and I joined the community to participate in the upcoming Hackathon. I used to work in R&D at Autodesk and today my job as Head of Research at VIM involves finding new ways to get better quality BIM data into the hands of people faster. I have been doing this through open research into algorithms (Math3D) and data-structures (LINQArray), visualization toolkits (VIM WebGL Viewer), and data-format design (BFAST, G3D, VIM). I often finding myself side-tracked into the intersection of math and art and have a fascination with the world of creative coding and procedural geometry creation.
I enjoy working with people who use code to solve real-world problems, and know how to use software to create actual art or practical things! Too often I find myself spending too much in the world of the theoretical and abstract.
I am fascinated with the opportunities that Speckle provides to tap into an ecosystem of tools and data to empower AEC professionals, and I’m looking forward to doing some experimentation and hacking with it!
Great to hear that we have common interests I’m planning to start developing RFEM connector -as community contribution - soon instead of making a request from Speckle team. Still making some investigation about Python SDK. Maybe some community members would like to help me with that
