I have been focused on the intersection of software, material, digital fabrication and architecture for about 15 years now. I originally started working in rhino and grasshopper creating custom scripts for CNC milling, 3D printing, laser cutting as well as computer vision and interactive architecture. I spent many years developing applications as well as robotics and equipment to drive mass customization in architecture, mostly from the academic side. Later I made the switch to industry and spent a number of years running a team creating software to fully automate the digital value chain for custom ceiling systems, primarily in C# and .NET.
I recently left that role to form a startup to manufacture low-carbon housing driven by intelligent design. We are focused on using data throughout the design and build process to reduce energy, improve efficiency, and preserve quality design. As part of our mission we want to utilize and contribute to open-source, which brought us to Speckle. Look forward to getting involved with the community!
Better late than never! I’ve been roaming around the forum and been using Speckle for over two years now, but never introduced myself.
My name is Jeroen de Bruijn and I have a background in building engineering. I followed a long study path and experienced that drawing up lovely details with rebar Ø40 mm is much easier than having to physically construct it and drag them around the building site in the pouring rain About a decade ago I made a map as well as some modifications to the game Call of Duty 4 with C++ and have been scripting a bit on the side every now and then (VBA, Python, C#).
I’ve been working for a few years as a building engineer (BIM, computational design) and recently joined Arup in the Speckle@Arup team as Product Manager. I’m excited to take part in the attempt of Speckle to transform the AEC industry!
Hi @Christopher_Hansen, Nice to have you on the forums!
I hope you get time to checkout our Speckle-Unreal plugin! I’d love to hear what your impressions are!
Hello all!
I’m an Architect and Open BIM Consultant living from Helsinki, Finland. I am originally from Australia and studied Architecture there before moving to Finland.
I am looking into ways to share data between different stakeholders, so I am hoping Speckle can help.
I normally work with Archicad and Solibri so I am interested in hosting and viewing ifc models and data.
Hi all,
I am an architect and computational designer living in Denmark. I studied architecture in Aarhus. I am working for LINK Arkitektur, which is one of the bigger architectural offices in Scandinavia, where my role is to build up and implement computational design principles and data based design workflows. We have set up a small team of architectural geeks called LINK IO, who are leading the development and implementation of data driven design at LINK Arkitektur. Since LINK is having offices in Norway, Sweden and Denmark we have an urgent need to bridge the digital gap between several different 3D applications.
My name is Sujal with a background in architecture and computational design and web technologies. I studied at IAAC, Barcelona. I moved to Singapore to be a part of a startup where we created an online platform to create customisable furniture pieces. We developed GH scripts to automate the process of furniture 3d and CNC cutting file generation along with creating furniture designs on the web.
My main languages for development are csharp and javascript.
I started playing around with speckle a long time ago and absolutely love this tool. I am excited to be part of this Speckle community.
Hi everyone!
I’m Jeroen and looking forward to get my hands and feet real dirty with Speckle!
I’ve been following you guys quite a bit for the past years and it was great to finally meet you in person @dimitrie and @teocomi at the NXT BLD and of course it was amazing to have @clrkng and @AlanRynne doing a masterclass at our AECTech event! Thanks again!!
I’m an architect, only by education really, I got into the whole computational design and coding a long while ago and landed a job in a structural engineering firm… Now being in CORE studio at Thornton Tomasetti, based in London. We’ve been playing a bit with Speckle so far, but things are about to get real with the intent to use the tools on a live project in DD, collaborating with our structural team and two architectural teams, sending across data back and forth between teams and different software packages… I just deployed our first server, and it was a treat with your excellent documentation. Very easy! Exciting stuff!!
When I’m not in front of my computer, I like to get out for a run along the Thames, take a dip in the docks training for the next triathlon…, or some long hikes (did my first munro up in Scotland two months ago!)
Great to be part of this community and thanks to be such a welcoming bunch! Amazing!
I live in San Diego, CA and work for a construction technology company, Inertia Systems ([www.inertiasystems.com]). Our platform uses BIM models to create Intelligent Constructions Documents. Basically, we allow you to attach records and documents to BIM model objects and create customized reports.
I was born in Botswana and grew up in the St. Louis, MO area. I graduated from Architecture school and worked on a variety of project types. I’ve had an interesting in construction since I was a kid and BIM has been a godsend personally and to our beloved professions. I’m into martial arts, artsy fartsy, sculpture, painting, airplanes and cars. I love to dabble and meet new people - I’ll .
I look forward to contributing and learning from this community. Here is a sample of a sculpture I designed and a piece of my artwork.
Hi all, figured I would finally introduce myself. My name is Erron Estrado. I am originally from Dominica, a small island in the Caribbean, but now I live in the Netherlands. I studied architecture and then building technology for my master’s and since graduating have been working as an Application Engineer at ASK Romein, a large steel engineering and construction company in the Netherlands.
My passion for a long time has been in the computational design/technology part of AEC thus BIM is a big part of that. In my job I’m constantly looking for tech solutions to improve our engineering workflow or developing them myself.
Now I’ve been helping the Speckle team with developing a Tekla Structures connector. Really excited to be a part of it and hope the community can put it to use soon!
My Name is Moustafa El-Sawy (him/he). I am originally from Egypt but was born in Canada. I am currently working as a structural engineer at AECOM NY. I first heard about Speckle during the 2021 AECTech Symposium (https://www.aectech.us/).
I really enjoy coding and providing automation tools to help my colleagues and make all our life easier. I have created several inhouse tools for structural packages and interopability tools.
Hoping to play around with the ETABS connector, possible provide feedback and hopefully contribute whenever I have time!
It’s really amazing to get to know you a bit beyond your usernames and profile pictures, hope you will enjoy browsing through the forum and learning more about our little blue brick .
More importantly, we’re looking forward to hearing what you have to say on the various topics and how you’d like us to shape Speckle going forward
Hi Speckle Community! My name is Nikita, i’m an architect from Ukraine .Currently i’m working with Revit, rhino+grasshopper in BIM automation processes field and i’m inspired with the possibilities that could be achieved using Speckle
P.S. First heard about Speckle in march 2020
Let’s take the opportunity to introduce myself… I am Bruno, I am from Belgium and moved to Denmark! I am studying architectural engineering at the Technical University of Denmark . I would like to work on how to improve workflows for building design and how to be more efficient in building design. I also just entered the world of Open Source and enjoy it so far. I am not a software developer but I am trying to get the knowledge for creating coding myself. So far I am using the other creation.
I am also very interested in parametric design and sustainability. It’s a big world in movements so I am a bit lost sometimes. Nevertheless, it’s a great opportunity to find new exciting things!
I am Andrea (male name here in Italy ), I studied Building Engineering and Architecture, but I’ve been working at a civil engineering firm for 6 years as a software developer (I studied computer science before the university).
I (and 2 other colleagues) develop tools to optimize and automate company workflows, trying to convince out geotechnical engineers that life can be easier with a little programming skills
The focus for the next years will be to push further the integration between all our tools/software, and we’re taking Speckle under serious consideration to do that!
One of our goals is to bring DevOps-like practices to the infrastructure engineering (BIMOps?)
I first heard about Speckle in 2018, but quickly dropped in favor of our custom DB/workflows, that turned out to be a bit cumbersome (at the end of the day, an engineer is not happy if he doesn’t have a spreadsheet to control so excel was our main “UI”).
I’m most proficient in python, but I’m strengthening my C# knowledge and worked with some javascript (NodeJS and React), mainly to use forge APIs.
I’m mostly a computer geek and I love open source, so in my free time, if I’m not paragliding, spelunking or just enjoying life, I try to help OS projects as I can!
Let’s see if I convince my boss to dedicate some time to help this great project for a win-win scenario
Hey @Mykyta_Onopko, @bruadam and @sanzoghenzo - thanks for the intros!!! Apologies we’re replying late, we’re hacking stuff for you For us it’s amazing to see the people behind speckle
If you show up, we’ve got our community standup later today and we can discuss the points you raised in more depth!
I’m highlighting these qoutes:
Because this is totally up our long term alley, and anything we can do to help you get there, we’d more than happy to act on. It’s where we ultimately see the biggest value in Speckle (perhaps because we’re geeks) - part of getting there is also making speckle as “consumer” friendly as possible, so there’s data to automate on
My name’s Fabiāns and I’m the latest addition to the Speckle team I hail from Riga, Latvia and I’ve joined this wonderful team here to help with web development and improve the web experience for Speckle users
I’ve been into software engineering since I was ~12 years old (so for most of my life) and web development has been the area that I’ve focused on the most. I’ve got a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from University of Latvia and professionally I’ve worked in a few e-commerce oriented companies. While I’ve worked with various programming languages (C#, C++, PHP, Dart), JavaScript and TypeScript are the ones I enjoy the most and have the most experience with and I really like the JavaScript ecosystem even with all its flaws I like working across the stack - the backend, the frontend and everything in between, so I think I have a pretty holistic view of the entire web development process.
Outside of programming you can find me gaming, watching horror movies or producing and listening to electronic music (mostly UK inspired techno)
Hi everyone, I’m Luis, I’m Peruvian now living in Vancouver, . Before that, I was living a couple of years in Chile and I was a witness to the introduction of BIM technologies and methodologies in countries like Chile and Peru. I studied Civil Engineer at university and since the beginning, I knew that implementing technology in the AEC industry should be the future so I fully immerse myself in this world. One thing took to another and I finished like a self-taught programmer . I started with Dynamo, passing for Python scripts or C# Macros inside Revit, to finally develop Revit Add-ins and trying to develop some web viewers to send quick 3D information from the model to the site of construction. On this road I found speckle in January 2022 and thought could be a good option when you need to develop a web app for AEC without using APIs from Autodesk. I’d like to learn to use speckle APIs and become a Developer specialist in solutions for AEC. When I’m not working or coding, in my free time I like to play soccer , do a lot of hikes with friends and meet new people from cultures different from mine.
Hello here, it’s Jim from Taiwan. I currently work in Tokyo, Japan as an AEC software engineer. Always keep an eye on the whole BIM industry. I am also a self -taught developer and always keep learning things that new to me. Several things I keep doing for stay motivated. Tons of notes, a lot of reading and practice. I am excited about Speckle. Hope I can contribute the community one day soon. I have general interests in computer geometry, algorithm and games. I even hold a discord channel for binding AEC folks in Taiwan.
Some website about me, my reading: (Many of them are in C#)
Also, I recommend Tokyo AEC group as well. They are excellent developers base in Tokyo. I happen to had some chance to host two sessions, feel free to check.
